DJ Maeve
Co-host of Rock N' Roll Damnation
Monday, 5-7 a.m.

Show Description:
Deep cuts, emotional rescues, and terrific tracks spanning the 1950s-2020s. Rock N’ Roll Damnation is for all the rockers out there from young to old as woven throughout their lives. The 7-year-old whose record is AC/DC’s Dirty Deeds on vinyl, repeated VHS rentals of Led Zeppelin's Song Remains the Same, midnight release of In Utero, missing work to wait for the Ticketmaster line at Sears; the Doors movie at the Theater, album parties with your friends, Grohl and Smear at Riot Fest Chicago, etc.

What would would you like to share with KDHX listeners and readers about yourself?
My name is Maeve and I'm 16 years old. I've always loved music and art from a young age but in recent years this love has grown. Listening to bands like Nirvana and Hole inspired me to be a drummer and now, a songwriter and DJ. I have a deep appreciation for all forms of art and artists/creatives. Outside of music, I love art (including art history), photography, and film.

Please describe the inspiration for your show.
Our inspiration is all the rockers out there from young to old -- as woven throughout their lives. The 7-year-old whose record is AC/DC's Dirty Deeds on vinyl, repeated VHS rentals of Led Zeppelin's Song Remains the Same, midnight release of In Utero, missing work to wait for the Ticketmaster line at Sears; the Doors movie at the Theater, album parties with your friends, Grohl and Smear at Riot Fest Chicago, etc. Rock as the soundtrack of your life, our audience is diverse, passionate, and deeply in love with all rock eras and bands, and that love is celebrated on our show and with our fans.

Why does being a KDHX DJ matter to you?
Being a KDHX DJ matters to me because music is my greatest passion and it's always been something I've loved to share. I used to share lyrics and songs I've written and playlists I've made with my friends. I still do this but now I get to do so on a larger scale, with the St. Louis community. It has also become a creative outlet for me in addition to drumming, songwriting, and photography. Secondly, my show Rock N' Roll Damnation is co-hosted by my dad who is the reason I love music so much. From a young age, he would play rock music on drives to school, bring me to live shows, and share his love of music with me. Eventually, I grew to love the same music and share the same passion. By being a KDHX DJ, I not only get to connect with my passion, but I also get to connect with my dad and make memories with him.

Why is KDHX important to you and to your community?
KDHX is an outlet for me to connect both to other DJs and listeners through music. I've always wanted to share my love for music with others, and with KDHX, I am part of a community that has the same values and can allow me to do this. In the St. Louis community, KDHX keeps creativity and discovery alive through its variety of genres and shows. Also, it can provide opportunities for local artists that otherwise may not receive exposure on the radio.

What are some of your favorite KDHX shows?
In the Middle of the Night with Kevin Lawrence
Soul Sensation with J-Soul

What record do you think everyone should have in their music library?
I think everyone should have Grace by Jeff Buckley in their music library. This has been one of the best albums I've ever listened to. From the first track, Mojo Pin, during my first listen of the album, Jeff Buckley's vocals hooked me and ever since he's been one of my favorite vocalists. Additionally, as a lover of poetic lyrics, this album stands out to me. Jeff Buckley has a unique ability to write simple lyrics that mean so much. For example, saying "It's never over" in his song Lover, You Should've Come Over. Lastly, Jeff Buckley is inspired by some of my favorite artists including Led Zeppelin and his music has the ability to tie together classic rock, 90s rock, and modern rock. Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin is a close 2nd.

Favorite thing you are listening to at the moment?
Right now, I'm loving Amy Winehouse's Black to Black. Everything from the songwriting to the vocals just feels so timeless. Also, I love how her music pieces together various genres from soul to rock. Off of the album, my favorite songs are Love Is A Losing Game and Tears Dry On Their Own. Another reason why I love this album so much is because of lyrics like "We only said goodbye with words, I died a hundred times." I hope to one day write music just as timeless and heartbreaking.
