WOLF KINGS

Following their critically-acclaimed productions of The Dispute, Burrow, Whammy! and Titus Androgynous, YoungLiars return with a world premiere spectacle - Wolf Kings.  Created and Conceived by Artistic Directors Maggie Conroy and Chuck Harper, and written by Chuck Harper.

As an antidote to their dystopian daily lives, five women meet weekly to divert, distract, and delight each other at a clandestine theatrical soiree. But tonight, the mood grows menacing as the line between oppressor and oppressed gets murky.  Part Victorian Drag Show, part Parisian Literary Salon, and part Fairy Tale Resistance Rally, Wolf Kings blends clever conversation, cryptic karaoke, delirious dance, and ferocious fortune-telling into an original YoungLiars spectacle.  Join us as we stray from the well-worn path into the deep dark forest, where hooded maidens, diabolical beasts, and morally-compromised grannies inevitably converge at that tiny cottage in the woods.

Performance runs through November 23rd.

The Foundry Art Centre is excited to unveil its final exhibitions of the year: 8x8x8 and Christmas Traditions® 50th Anniversary – The Exhibition.

8x8x8 returns for its fourth year, offering artists a unique challenge: What can they create within a space measuring 8x8x8 feet? This year's participants, Steve Jones, Dee Levang, Carolyn Lewis, Jasmine Raskas, Jeremy Rabus, Kirby Kogut, Maxine Thirteen, and the Foundry Studio Artists will fill one-third of the Main Galleries with their incredible works.

All pieces in this exhibition are available for purchase and can be taken home immediately, making it a great opportunity to support local artists and find one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.

Christmas Traditions® 50th Anniversary – The Exhibition celebrates five decades of the beloved St. Charles festival through a contemporary art lens. St. Louis-based artist Tiffany Sutton has reimagined the Legends of Christmas with stunning double-exposure photography. Accompanying mood boards and retired festival costumes offer a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of these iconic characters.

Additionally, the exhibition will showcase ever-popular commemorative trading cards from the festival's history.

The exhibition is part of the Foundry’s First Friday Series, featuring music, art activities for all ages, and more, and will be on view through December 22nd.

Hours: 10am - 5pm // Tuesday - Saturday

Subterranean Books presents Eileen G'Sell, with opening poet Tola Sylvan
Join us as we welcome poet and critic Eileen G'Sell as she reads from and discusses her newest volume of poetry Francofilaments.

G'Sell will sign copies after the presentation and they will be available to be mailed anywhere in the country.

About the Writers:
Eileen G'Sell is a poet and culture critic whose work focuses on gender, sexuality, and economic class. Her poetry has been published in Poetry magazine, Fence, DIAGRAM, Oversound, The Rumpus, and The Boston Review; her essays have been published in The Baffler, Chronicle of Higher Education, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Current Affairs, and Jacobin.  In 2023, she won the Rabkin Prize for excellence in arts writing. Her first full-length volume of poetry, Life After Rugby, was published in 2018 by Gold Wake Press; her second volume, Francofilaments, is available late 2024 from Broken Sleep Books. In 2025, her first book of nonfiction, Lipstick, will be published by Bloomsbury Academic's Object Lessons Series.  She teaches writing and media studies at Washington University in St. Louis.

Tola Sylvan is a poet from Massachusetts. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in journals such as Poetry Northwest, Ploughshares, Vallum, and Poetry magazine.

About Francofilaments:
Vacillating between prose and verse, Francofilaments presents a varied sojourn through a woman's trials and tribulations as reimagined, and filtered through, French culture and film. Several poems are based on, or excerpt from, interviews G'Sell conducted with French or French-speaking actors and filmmakers—including Juliette Binoche, Celine Sciamma, and Isabelle Huppert—while others excerpt from an extensive list of reviews and essays published on Francophone cinema. In investigating Francophilia, G'Sell likewise plumbs the depths of national, gendered, and racial identity. This volume is a cinematic excavation of interiority—the author's, but also that which we see and hear onscreen.

Many female singers are known by single names, but one of the best was known, simply, as, “Judy.” St. Louis actor and singer Laura Lee Kyro will take on personal stylings of songs once sung by Judy, as well as songs made famous by others, in a tribute to musical numbers from stage and screen. Selections will include famous Judy standards such as Rock-A-Bye Your Baby, The Man that Got Away, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, to name but a few. Laura has been treading stages throughout St. Louis for over four decades, winning awards for several roles. In the past, she’s taken on leading roles in productions of Mame, Gypsy, Into The Woods, Angels In America, and many others. Join Laura and accompanist Paul Cereghino for a night of classic music numbers made famous by “Judy and Others.”

Paul Cereghino is a St. Louis-based actor, comic, pianist, and music director. As an actor, he has worked with St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, Young Liars, Metro Plays, SATE, and more, winning a Theatre Circle award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his work in “Souvenir” with Max & Louie. In the Ross Family Theatre at the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center

Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

Please note that this production uses haze.
