By KDHX
DJ Spectre
Host of Roll Initiative
Tuesday, 11 p.m.-1 a.m.
Show Description:
Whether you’re fighting monsters or going into the office, be sure to tune in for a powerful mix of rock and metal that will leave you energized and ready to take on the day.
Please describe the inspiration for your show.
Beyond just the namesake, Roll Initiative was inspired by DnD and other fantasy games. The music I play always gives me a sense of excitement, wonder, and energy, while setting a perfect backdrop for slaying monsters or staring into the night
Why does being a KDHX DJ matter to you?
Being a KDHX DJ matters to me because music is my greatest passion and it's always been something I've loved to share. I used to KDHX gives me the gives me the ability champion the music I'm passionate about, and provides a weekly artistic outlet. Preparing for my show every week also encourages me to always be on the lookout for new music, some of my current favorites I only found out about while putting together playlists. My favorite part about being on air is hearing from listeners and finding out about new music through requests.
Why is KDHX important to you and to your community?
My show on KDHX is one of, if not the only place to hear metal music on air in the St. Louis region. I get to play what I'm passionate about without being controlled by what's popular or traditionally radio-friendly. My show provides news about niche concerts and several subgenres of metal, none of which would be possible without KDHX.
What are some of your favorite KDHX shows?
My favorite show on KDHX is World Disco Adventure with DJ Flavio. Disco music is highly melodic and features good synth beats. Metal or not all of my favorite music is highly melodic and energetic, usually with a good beat. So I feel right at home listening in to World Disco Adventure. Fans of his show might notice that a current trend in power metal is all about taking inspiration from disco and AOR artists.
What record do you think everyone should have in their music library?
It might be a bit of a copout, but Dio's Holy Diver can't be beat. For something a little more niche though, Nightwish's Imaginaerium is an experience from start to finish. Every song on the album has something to offer, and even after countless listens Last Ride of the Day still gives me goosebumps.
Favorite thing you are listening to at the moment?
Recently I've been listening to Old Gods of Asgard a lot. Which technically is the fictional alter ego of the very real band, Poets of the Fall. The song Herald of Darkness especially is a lot of fun.
