Saint Louis Chamber Chorus, Opposites Attract "Classic Pop"

Some of pop music’s icons receive a classical ‘makeover’ through choral arrangements of their signature songs, sung by the Midwest’s leading a cappella choir. Usually associated with classical composers like Mendelssohn and Brahms, the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus now applies its distinctive sound to modern ‘hits’ by The Beatles & Coldplay, Billy Joel & Taylor Swift, among others. Hearing contemporary favorites reinterpreted by an ensemble of 50 trained voices casts them in a new light, and none more so than “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, heard in an arrangement for double choir made specially for this concert by Melissa Dunphy, who will fly to St. Louis for the world premiere. A most appropriate setting for such a secular playlist will be The Sun Theater in Grand Center; this historic venue provides an elegant contrast to the sacred spaces typical of a Chamber Chorus presentation.
